Is Your Talent Good Enough

During the Memphis Girls Basketball Fall Fest events, I was reminded that there is a lot of young talented players in Memphis. It’s not uncommon for Memphis to have talented players entering high school. It’s also not uncommon for the same talented players to graduate from high school with the same skills they had when they entered ninth grade..—NO GROWTH IN THEIR GAME..

Your talent can only get you so far. It can get you notoriety in the city, on MemphisGirlsBasketball.com and even nationally. Sometimes it can get you college basketball scholarship offers. SOMETIMES!

8 Ways to Take Advantage of the Month of June

Recently, I read a great blog post about Off-Season Improvements for Coaches. It’s a great read for coaches at all levels. The article offers 7 Career Enhancing Thoughts Heading into Summer. I thought this article was not only great for coaches but anyone that could use some career advice. Then my focus immediately turned to current girls basketball players. Journey to Memphis’ Next Top Baller Episode 21

March 2014 training is in the books. I’m enjoying every bit of it.

I’ve watched players go from being frustrated with handling 2 basketballs to now being able to dribble 2 basketballs at a time. I’ve watched players go from not being able to at least hit the rim while performing a layup to know making layups.

My 7 year old niece is in the middle of her first basketball season ever and her growth is amazing. She is a natural leader as she directs her teammates and shows her emotions after the game.

It is such a joy to watch players get better and gain confidence.

Below is a video from the Junior training session on March 22, 2014. I’m explaining to the players how to demand the basketball. Then I demonstrate the 30 Second Jump Shooting drill.
