P-15 Workout: February 15, 2015

February is Free Throw Month.

Tournament time is here. Championships are won and lost with free throws.

The P-15 Workout is an opportunity to get an extra 15 minutes of individual practice in before or after team practice. You decide if you want to do the workout everyday this week or come up with your own schedule.

This Week’s P-15 Workout: Free Throws

Make 75 Free Throws. If time remains, take shots from any where on the court, as long as, it is in your shooting range.

Tip: Take advantage of the 10 second count you have to shoot free throws. You should have a routine established, where as, you do the exact same thing every single time you shoot a free throw. Setting your feet. Bending your knees. Number of dribbles you take. Looking at your target before taking the shot. Lastly, following through.

It’s Not How You Start!

Standing here with 19 championships is something I never thought would happen. I went on the courts with just a ball and a racquet and a hope. –Serena Williams after winning her 19th Grand Slam title

I never imagined leading my junior high and high school teams in scoring. I never imagined being named MVP of those teams. I never even imagined being a member of the University of Memphis Lady Tigers basketball team.

All I wanted to do was simply play basketball. At first, I only played at PE in elementary school. My first personal goal was made out of a milk crate. As an 8th grader, I saved my allowance and purchased my first real basketball goal.

When I became an adult, my desires moved to wanting to stay involved in basketball. I only had 5 participants at my first camp. Two of the participants were my sister and her best friend. I lost $1,000 putting on my first exposure event.

It’s not how you start…..It’s how you finish..

And even a slow start, is a start!!!
