I heard that it takes 21 days to create a habit. I’ve been creating a habit. I’m at the end of my third week of walking for 1 hour, at an increasing pace, 4 times a week. I’m working on creating another habit – doing something completely different or out of the ordinary at least once a month. I’m heading into my 4th month of attending a series of wine tasting classes at the Brooks Museum. I’ve learned, a little, about white wines, red wines, sparkling wines and I will finish up with desert wines. I’m working on reading 2 books a month also. Right now I’m reading Influence The Psychology of Persuasion. It’s pretty neat to learn about how people (how I) react to different situations we are put in. As I write this, it seems like I’m doing a lot. In a way, I am and in a way, I’m not.
I have been involved in basketball in some fashion for over 12 years. I’ve been a head coach, an assistant coach, and a trainer. I’ve run basketball camps, basketball leagues, boys tournaments and girls tournaments. I’ve also helped start several basketball organizations. All of this while working a full time job.
During this time, I’ve lost loved ones. I’ve lost time. I’ve also lost me. I’ve been so focused on being Patosha, the employee. Patosha, the basketball coach. Patosha, the girls basketball trainer. Patosha, the publisher of MemphisGirlsBasketball.com. I forgot about Patosha, the person. I’ve decided that I need to take some time for me.
I was planning to launch two new events in April, Tip Off Jamboree and bring back the Spring Show Off Camp. The original Show Off Camp. But I’ve decided to hold off on that.. I’ve also decided to not have a Team Po Po travel team this year. It takes a lot of energy to coach a team and I just don’t have that kind of energy right now. This year, I will focus on training from March to September and refining my training sessions where players are more confident in the sport and more prepared for game situations.. I also plan to continue the Memphis Girls Basketball Fall Fest in September which includes the Fall Exposure League and Pre-Season Show Off Camp. Of course, I will also host my Granny’s Girls Basketball Camp.
I will focus on being more healthy: physically and mentally. I plan to spend more time in the gym and reading to exercise my mind. I want to write more which is why I have relaunched my original site PatoshaJeffery.com, as a blog. I will be decommissioning my other sites (GirlsBasketballTrainer.com, GirlsBasketballExposure.com, GirlsBasketballRecruiting.com, GirlsBasketballDrills.com, GirlsBasketballResources.com ) over the next few months and primarily updating this site and MemphisGirlsBasketball.com. PatoshaJeffery.com will be used to regularly keep you updated not only on what I’m doing relating to basketball but what I’m doing in my life.
I’m excited about this period in my life.. I haven’t been excited in awhile. I’ve been feeling stuck for a long time and I know this is the right time to refocus myself. I had gotten so caught up into the routine of life. The next holiday. The next work day. The next basketball practice, tournament and event. I couldn’t think of any other interests that I had other than basketball, business, The Good Wife and Scandal.
At the end of 2014, I look forward to being thinner, smarter and having more interests than I can handle.
