Game Planning

College Coaches game plan for each new year. They game plan for each week of practice. They game plan for each practice. They game plan for each game.

Game planning doesn’t stop there.

College coaches game plan for recruiting. They game plan for each evaluation period. They game plan for each evaluation period tournament. They even have a game plan for each day they evaluate at a tournament.

Game planning is about being intentional. It’s about knowing what you want to accomplish. It’s about being focused, executing your plan, getting results, and making the necessary adjustments.

60 Days Away

It’s time for you to start game planning for Travel Season!

February 19 is the 60 day mark from the first evaluation period in April.

April 19-21 is the first weekend Division 1 women’s basketball college coaches can attend a basketball tournament to evaluate players.

That first evaluation period is always exciting. Being in a big facility with tons of courts and hearing basketballs all over bouncing is quite the experience.

As a college coach, I was excited to watch the high level of competition and to see the growth of players I had been recruiting.

I was also excited for players that I had been talking to on the phone to see me at their games. I would be in my bright gold clothing so I couldn’t be missed. LOL!

Next week, I will start sharing game planning info with you.

Still Playing?

If your team is still playing and you have advanced in your end of season tournament or even heading to the state tournament, Congratulations to you!

All the hard work you put in with your high school team during the summer, fall and throughout the winter is paying off.

Also, the longer you keep playing, the greater the opportunity for you to play in front of college coaches with your high school team.

End of season tournaments and State Tournaments are the final time of the year that college coaches get out to evaluate during the high school season.

Activity 1

Make it easy for college coaches  to see you play with your high school.

Continue to promote your end of season tournaments and your state tournament by posting and reposting the brackets and updated brackets.

College coaches use the info to stay updated and to make plans to attend.

If you are being recruited and communicating with coaches, text the links to the brackets and updated brackets to them.

Activity 2

In last week’s activity, I mentioned for rising Juniors and Seniors to create an Initial Eligibility Free Profile account to participate in the College Basketball Academy.

An Initial Eligibility Free Profile account can actually be created by anyone. You can create your account, as early as, while in middle school.

Creating the account early gives you an early start on getting important information from the Initial Eligibility Center related to academic requirements to play college athletics. Also, you will already have your account created when your class is eligible to participate in the College Basketball Academy.

“A lot of players lift, train, shoot, condition & prepare. It’s not just that you do those things, it’s at what standard & how consistently you do those things. You have to keep raising your standard & meet it to continually make progress. Work hard. Work smart. Work consistently!” – @coachjonbeck
